We Are Adopted

Adoption is a picture of how God brings us into His family.

It's a powerful reflection on how the Heavenly Father treats us when we put our trust in His Son, Jesus.

“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ.
This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure”
– Ephesians 1:5

Isn’t it great to know that “it gave him great pleasure” to adopt you?! That’s how much He loves us. We were estranged from Him because of our brokenness and sin, and He paid the ultimate price to adopt us into His family.

I’m so encouraged by how many families at Grace Church have adopted, some locally, others internationally.

According to a report recently released by Child Trends, fewer children are waiting for permanent families and their average wait time has shrunk. Based on the latest statistics available (2015), the research revealed that:

Many child-welfare specialists credit these improvements to the 1997 Adoption and Safe Families Act, which created cash incentives for states that increased their adoptions of foster children, and set deadlines for action.

Not only do we reflect the Lord’s heart when we adopt a child. We’re also demonstrating the genuineness of our faith:

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:
to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world”

James 1:27

Not everyone is in the position to adopt, but we can all show care and compassion in some way.
More and more, may our church family be defined by its care and compassion.
