When the Bible warns us to run from things that harm us, it also encourages us to go after what’s good… “along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (2 Timothy 2:22).

It’s like the African proverb:  “If you want to go fast, go alone.  If you want to go far, go together.”  We’re strongest together.

I’m so glad you’re here!  Maybe you’re new to Grace.  Most of us remember our first day here…the awkwardness of not knowing people, or looking for restrooms, or figuring out how to get around the building.  But before long, we began to feel at home.  It’s a great place to get to know God better and to build some lasting friendships!

I take this space each week to address various topics or highlight happenings at Grace.  Today, a few highlights on getting connected…

GraceKids & Youth Groups.  Our kids love all the opportunities for friendship and activity here at Grace!  Check out our website for details (gracecma.org) or pick up info in the lobby today.  We have great programs for kids every Sunday and Wednesday.

Find community.  You don’t have to be a member to attend Keys to Recovery, Ladies Latte, Moms Uplifting Moms (MUMS), Band of Brothers, Men’s Fraternity, or one of our many Adult Classes (In-Touch is a great place to start). You’ll find a description of these opportunities at our website or at the brochure display in our lobby.  All of these
create a pathway to get to know folks at Grace and to take steps of spiritual growth.

6:00 Service.  Some folks prefer this later service, which resumes next Sunday.  It includes the same message as the morning services, along with a more casual atmosphere.  There are classes for children through 4th grade, Jr. and Sr High youth group
options, and an expanded Café after the service.  If you prefer a smaller setting, you can check out the Venue on the Atrium level at 10:30 amor 12 noon (seats about 225 people).

Find a place to serve.  You don’t have to wait years to get plugged in!  Volunteering allows you to make new friends, plus you’ll have the satisfaction that you’re making a difference.  You’ll see some options in today’s bulletin—feel free to be in touch, or give our office a call.

Make it personal.  Start reading the Bible on a daily basis.  Check our Welcome Center for a modern translation, which is a huge help.  You’ll also find a huge selection of Bible reading guides at excellent online Bible websites like BibleGateway.com, or YouVersion.com.

Get baptized.  Baptism is a significant milestone event.  It’s Jesus’ way for his followers to go public with their decision to follow him. You can check our website (see Grow/Baptism) for answers to the most frequently asked questions related to baptism.  If you’re ready to sign up for baptism, fill out the green card in your bulletin today, sign up on our website, or just give our office a call.

Next Sunday we launch our new series, “Don’t check your brain at the door” (see insert).  My prayer is that soon you’ll look back and say, “On Easter, I felt a bit uncomfortable as a newcomer.  Today, this is home.  I’ve made so many new friends and my spiritual life is taking off.”   If we can be of assistance, don’t hesitate to be in touch.  Happy Easter!

Grace Church has a reputation for being a welcoming church, and I love that!

How can we each live that out?  First, value every person as someone made in God’s likeness (Genesis 1:27).  Treat them as his masterpieces (Ephesians 2:10).

Do you have a child who seems to be running away from God?

I heard Ron Hutchcraft speak on the topic, "Four Principles to Remember When Your Child is Far From Home."  I’d like to pass along Ron’s thoughts here.
