Lumar Vargas

lumar-vargasDirector of Small Groups & Spanish Ministry | email | X163

Lumar directs the Small Groups and Spanish Ministry by teaching, training, and equipping leaders and providing outreach initiatives for the Spanish community.

Before her call to ministry, Lumar was an English/Language Arts middle school and high school teacher for 8 years and has been a guest speaker at Hispanic churches throughout the U.S. and internationally. In her ministry role at Grace, Lumar most enjoys seeing people grow in their spiritual formation and their depth of understanding God’s Word. She has a passion for helping people move from knowing God’s Word to evaluating and applying it, until the Word is alive and active in their lives. “There’s nothing like the Holy Spirit transforming people!”

Originally from Chicago, Lumar grew up on the west side of Cleveland, where she and Emanuel met when she was in middle school. They now call Parma Heights home. In her free time, she loves traveling, new projects, and playing box drum at Grace. When she’s not at Grace, you might find her having quiet time with her cat (Cupcake Vargas) not far away, or enjoying Spanish food and laughter with her family.

Lumar holds an Ohio school principal license from Indiana Wesleyan University, a master's degree in Educational Administration, a bachelor's degree in English/Language Arts Education and Ohio teaching license from Cleveland State University.
