Lumar Vargas

lumar-vargasDirector of Adult Education and Small Group Ministry | email | X163

Lumar directs the Adult Education & Small Group Ministry by teaching, training and equipping small group leaders and teachers.

Before her call to ministry, Lumar was an English/Language Arts middle school and high school teacher for 8 years. In her ministry role at Grace, Lumar most enjoys seeing people grow in their spiritual formation and their depth of understanding God’s Word. She believes this happens best in the context of community. She has a passion for helping people move from knowing God’s Word to evaluating and applying it, until the Word is alive and active in their lives. “There’s nothing like the Holy Spirit transforming people!”

Originally from Chicago, Lumar grew up on the west side of Cleveland and now calls Parma Heights home.

Lumar has been a guest speaker at Hispanic churches throughout the U.S. and internationally. In her free time, she loves traveling with her husband Emanuel. She also enjoys teaching Wednesday night classes and playing box drum at Grace. When she’s not at Grace, you might find her having quiet time with her kitten (Cupcake Vargas) not far away, or enjoying Spanish food and laughter with her family.

Lumar holds a master's degree in Educational Administration and a bachelor's degree in English/Language Arts Education from Cleveland State University. She is currently completing her Principal Licensure at Indiana Wesleyan University.
