austin-shawPastor of College/Young Adult Ministry | email | X290

Austin leads Grace Young Adult ministry on Thursday nights in the Venue. Austin has a passion for communicating the message of Scripture, and he can often be found teaching on Sundays at Grace Church, leading small groups and classes, and addressing groups at special speaking engagments.

Austin grew up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Austin trusts in the reliability and sufficiency of God’s Word and enjoys discussing the Christian worldview among skeptics and those challenged by secularizing trends.

Austin was educated at the University of Oxford, UK (MA, MSt, DPhil), having completed his PhD (called a “DPhil” at Oxford) in Patristic Theology under the supervision of eminent church historian, Mark J. Edwards. His dissertation focused on the theological debates in the decades after the Council of Nicaea (AD 325).

Austin holds a Fellowship with the Center for Pastor Theologians, a group of pastor-scholars devoted to the ecclesial renewal of theology and the theological renewal of the church.

Austin is an active member of The Sons of the American Revolution, where he serves as assistant to the Chaplain, The Circle (The Cleveland Orchestra’s young professional group), and the Western Reserve Historical Society.

Austin met his wife Mallory at Grace Church where they married in 2011. They have one son, Graham (b. 2015), named in honor of America’s great evangelist.

Austin's Hobbies include: jogging, Christian biography, Reformation Theology, and anything having to do with Cleveland.
